5 x 5 Fest

About a month ago I ran across a comics competition being put on by Ghost City Comics called 5x5 Fest.  The contest was to do a five page comic story in five days.  The parameters are that within your story a specific prop (shoe polish), setting (the back seat of a stolen car), and line of dialog ("We almost got them all") have to appear at least once.

Today the winners of the competition were announced and they were not me.  I was disappointed, but not surprised.  My work was not bad, but it was far from my best.  More time, more concentration, and more focus would have elevated my story greatly. As it stood, it simply didn't earn its way up the ranks.

Still, for a first go at a limited production time story, I don't think it's half bad and I had a great time working on it, sharing my progress, and meeting other creators online.  It was a great event to be a part of and see the encouragement as we all pushed ourselves over that five-day period.

I wanna shout out to Ghost City Comics for putting on this unique and fun contest, it was a helluva good time and I'm looking forward to participating again next year!

Here's my story, "Half Alive", that I wrote and drew over an intense and unbalanced five days earlier this month:
